And The Work Goes On...

When we last visited the Guest House, the messy old plaster had been removed, and insulation and dry wall were going up. Mark and Cody have been hard at work, and it's starting to look like a real house again. Here's a peek at where we are now.

Upstairs, in Grandmommy's room, the inherently slow process of mudding and taping dry wall is underway.

It was easier to work around the big, old wardrobe than to move it out, so it just keeps waltzing around the room.

Across the hall, in Lohr's room, things are about the same.

The door has been stripped of old paint, revealing a layer of golden yellow on one side,

and bright blue on the other. This was news to us - Robin isn't aware of the doors ever being any color other than white.

The door to the tiny back room was also stripped of paint, revealing an unusual burl in the wood.

Somehow, I don't think I'll be painting this beauty!

The new Necessary Room (i.e. bathroom) upstairs is ready for tile around the tub and on the floor.

The sink and toilet will go on this wall,

this is the wall at the end of the tub,

and this is the door to a nice, big bathroom closet.

Downstairs, the dry wall in the parlor is underway.

The main hallway is also looking great.

The little nook under the stairs is going to be a sweet spot indeed.

And now that the protective "hut" and plaster mess are gone, this grand old stairway is coming back to life.

Outside, the back porch got a much-needed face lift this week.

And then there's the pond project...but that's another story for another day.

  2. This is an amazing project! I love history, I love the story of your farm, I've always wanted to visit Virginia, and just maybe someday I will come and stay a spell! It's a dream, but one can dream big, right?! I've been keeping up with your news via Stephanie's Tuesday link-up on The Enchanted Rose. :) Blessings from MN!

  7. Confession: I check the blog at least once a week in hopes of one day seeing that another room is done so that we can visit again and bring company this time.
